What to Look for in Your Veterinarian
Choosing the right Veterinarian for you is a big decision and there are a lot of things to consider when making that choice:
- Your future Veterinarian is going to be your second best friend…someone you need to feel confident with and trustful of to be sure that your pet is going to get the care it deserves.
- People skills, or bed-side manner, is an important factor in your choice. If you don’t feel like you can communicate effectively with your Veterinarian then how can you expect effective treatment?
- Plan ahead. Don’t wait until you absolutely must see someone about your pet as you may find that you won’t be happy with your choice because you can’t take the time to really decide.
- Look beyond the Veterinarian to the people behind them. Are you confident in the team that supports your choice and how they will be treating your pet?
- Don’t be afraid to travel a little further than normal to get the care you want.
- Ask around to your friends who have pets. They are a good judge of who to see and who they are happy with, especially if you are a new pet owner.
- Schedule a visit to meet the staff, tour the facilities & learn about hospitals philosophy. Don’t be shy about asking tough questions, this is an important decision for your pet’s wellbeing.
